The Glasshouse, The Quay, Westport, Co.Mayo, Ireland.

From Nov 13th-16th there is a Stained Glass course for people who would like to make a decent sized panel (approximately 2 ft square) or a complex panel with lots of pieces. This is suitable for either experienced workers or beginners and costs 350 euro which includes all materials.

From Nov 22nd-23rd there is a Glass Fusion weekend for anyone interested in trying their hand at fusing glass (putting previously cut pieces of glass in a kiln and melting them together). Costs 190 euro, materials included.

It people are travelling from England there is a daily flight from Gatwick to Connaght International Airport (NOC) which is an hour away from Westport, or, if they arrive in Dublin there is a direct train service to Wesport.

On 30 June 1972 Pablo Picasso created his last self-portrait. He had depicted himself many times before, but never like this. His face looked like a skull with stubble. Its colour was greenish-grey. The mouth was a straight slit. Demonstration of Mokuhanga (Japanese Wood Block Printing)

Patriothall Gallery, Ground Floor, 3-4.30pmPaul Furneaux will demonstrate Mokuhanga, one of the most beautiful and ancient forms of printing. Come along and learn how the beautiful fading of one colour into another is achieved through subtle skill of 

“Bokashi” and how to register one printing block with another through a “Kento”guide.

Studio 304, Third Floor, all-day drop-in session Anna King invites you to drop in for a tapestry weaving demonstration where she will talk to people about the technique and materials involved in this fascinating process.

Fantastical Landscape

Painting, Children’s Workshop,

Patriothall Gallery, Ground Floor, 12-2pm

Painter Georgia Murray will lead a children’s landscape painting workshop. Children of all ages welcome. 

Wasps has leased Patriothall Studios since 1984. 

The lease was due to expire in 2005 without the option of a renewal, threatening the loss of the building which provided studio space for over 50 artists.  The building was purchased and refurbished in 2004 securing the future of these fantastic studios. 

Patriothall houses a gallery space which is run by a voluntary group of artists who are based within the building.
