x Rachel Ducker's Landmark Installation in Henley-on-Thames x

A life size sculpture by Rachel Ducker has been installed at a landmark roundabout at the entrance to Henley-on-Thames.
Landscape designer Paul Terroni won a competition run by Henley in Bloom to redesign the roundabout, which is sponsored by the Henley Standard. The idea is to show Henley as a “gateway to a healthy lifestyle” and create a vibrant welcome to the town.
The roundabout design features Rachel’s sculpture, depicting a woman leaping out of water, surrounded by flower beds of Olympic-style interlocking rings planted in bright colours.

Henley town councillor Elizabeth Hodgkin said "The roundabout has exceeded my expectations and Rachel is a genius in how she makes the movement feel real."

Rachel Ducker will be showcasing her work at ‘Art in the Garden’ at the Big Plant Nursery in Twyford as part of the popular Henley Arts Trail during 2nd, 3rd and 4th May 2015.  The first May Bank Holiday weekend is a perfect time to visit for inspiration and ideas on designing your outdoor space so 'Save the Date': 2nd - 4th May 2015.  The Big Plant Nursery is venue 17 on the HENLEY ARTS TRAIL MAP 2015

x Liz Vaughan - www.bgallery.co.uk x

Image
Art has been a long and exciting journey for Liz. For years she painted traditional pictures beautiful landscapes of lakes and mountains etc. She taught art, held exhibitions of her own work and arranged them for other painters, her work is in collections in France and Spain and last year was approached to exhibit in New York and Greece she realised that she has become profoundly bored with painting in an 'acceptable' way that has always been an english tradition. Painting for her has to be an adventure and above all exciting.
Liz found herself inventing effects on her canvases that did not reflect what was in the 'real' world. On a whim she was extending lines on the canvas, just to see where they wanted to go, and adjusting colours so that they interacted more in a more interesting way than the light did in the outside world. And gradually her excitement reappeared - suddenly she wanted to spend all her time in her studio again, exploring this fascinating world of abstract art.
Over the past few years Liz has begun to realise that the potential for expressing feeling and movement in abstract art is unlimited. There are no boundaries - she can do whatever she wants on her canvases. Where originally she felt constrained to produce recognisable images of the world outside, now she is free to allow the work to draw her along, not guiding it but simply letting her work pull me along, suggesting new approaches, different combinations of light, colour and movement that form their own internally consistent patterns and relationships.
Liz's work is just entering a whole new kaleidoscopic transitional world, one that she wants to make her own and to share with others. This exhibition is just a short snapshot of her own one-way journey - she has no idea where it will take her, but she knows that it's already the greatest journey of her life.

x Andrew Cottrell at b Gallery art directory x

Welcome
Born in Birmingham in 1967, I attended a school in Somerset for boys with Dyslexia, where my love of art developed.
I studied Illustration at Falmouth & Hereford College of Art where I developed my present styles, both of which are colorful and textured.
Main influences on my work include light, shade and far eastern countries. I have travelled to India and Malaysia and my more recent pieces of work pick up on recent travels to France and Venice.
I greatly admire the work of the Artist’s N.C. Wyeth and his son Andrew. These artists have influenced my work over the years and so has Anthony Green.
Please visit my website to see more of my work and I look forward to hearing from you.
