b Gallery online Art Directory ~ Welcomes Robert M James

Robert James is a Berkshire based practicing architect, who studied and qualified at the Manchester School of Architecture in the mid 1980s.

In 2005 Robert had the very good fortune to join an art class overseen by Neil McDonald ASEA, one of the country’s leading life-drawing and watercolour artists. Inspired by Neil’s tutelage, Robert has developed his drawing skills and now dedicates much of his free time to his passion for depicting the human form.

Most of the work is fast and representative, with the pictures aiming to capture the light and mood of the moment. Anatomical accuracy is important, but there is no attempt to record every last detail. Sometimes, less is more.

To see more of Robert's work and how to purchase it direct from him, please go to www.bgallery.co.uk

b Gallery online Art Directory ~ Welcomes Ann Richmond

A short Biography...
Ann Richmond hails from one of the many hamlets dotted throughout Gloucestershire's Stroud Valley. From an early age, she discovered a passion for the natural world and, over time, this was channelled into drawing, painting and sculpture.
A rediscovery of this skill in later years, was to see her explore the medium of fired clay, before moving into more intricate & detailed commissions for the giftware trade.
Now, having established her new 'Avvaganda Studio' in rural Wiltshire, she has turned to expressive wildlife painting, for which she's developed a unique 'scratchy' style in pen & acrylic.
"My paintings tell stories about the innate wisdom, innocence and grace of wildlife, both familiar and obscure. The vibrant bursts of spatered pigment symbolise the fragility and vitality of life in the natural world.
In surrounding the eye of each subject with a flowing mass of colour, I create a focal point that triggers a spiritual, almost empathic response in the viewer."
1991 - Nature in Art, Gloucestershire
Prema Project, Uley, Gloucs.
1992 - Society of Wildlife Artists, Mall Gallery, London.
Royal West of England Academy, Bristol.
1993 - Society of Wildlife Artists, Mall Gallery, London.
2000 - Society of Wildlife Artists, Mall Gallery, London.
2008 - Zelli Porcelain, Chiltern St. London.
2009 - Inkspot, Swindon.

b Gallery online Art Directory ~ Welcomes Anita Davies

A graduate of the highly regarded Design Crafts course at Hereford College of Art, I have been making decorative art and jewellery for over 15 years.
My art work draws on the decorative fragmented surfaces of ancient jewellery, reliquaries, frescoes and tiled surfaces. Museums and Art Galleries fuelled my obsession from an early age. As a child I enjoyed piecing things together in my mind and learnt to appreciate highly decorative, elaborate surfaces that had been time worn and broken.
This has shaped the way I design. I prefer abstractions and incomplete images and textures and although my work has no direct narrative it does have a language of pattern, texture and colour. I like to capture the idea of buried treasure in my work, fragments of artefacts that were part of something bigger, which now no longer exist.

b Gallery online Art Directory ~ Welcomes Caroline Richardson

I have always loved art and colour. I am also very analytical, studying aeronautical engineering at Bristol University and initally following a career in IT where I designed software.
More recently I have developed a love of glass; this has enabled me to combine my creative and technical abilities in seemingly limitless ways. A postgraduate course in Glass and Architecture at Central Saint Martins expanded my understanding of and skills with a very complex media and I now work in fused and stained glass to produce windows, sculptures and wall-hung artwork.
Much of my work has a textural element to it and I am also interested in using light to add something dynamic. My inspiration comes from natural themes. I particularly enjoy being able to combine shapes and textures in different layers, to draw the observer into the work and to give a sense of depth and interest, perhaps of things hidden.

Edward Vulliamy ~ Exhibits at our online Art Directory

Edward is a landscape painter who paints in both oils and watercolour. He likes to paint scenes by the River Thames or cityscapes near where he lives in SW London.
He is a retired Chartered Engineer who took up painting in the 1990s and trained at local art schools in Richmond, Putney and Chelsea. He regularly exhibits at local art exhibitions in SW London and at the b Gallery in Toddington. His paintings are popular - being part-traditional, part-contemporary.
In 2011 he aims to try some different styles and to experiment with acrylic paints in addition to oils and watercolour. But he will continue to paint his figurative landscapes – usually en plein air – as well.

Elephant Appreciation Weekend: 24-25 September 2011

Elephant art, behind-the-scenes tours and up-close encounters – get ready for a mammoth weekend of fun at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo’s Elephant Appreciation Day.

Celebrating all things jumbo, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is hosting Elephant Appreciation Day to raise money for its worldwide elephant conservation projects, on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September.
